I’ve read several books on the subject of self-publishing and I’ve decided that it’s past time for me to publish a book. Having debated various formats and distribution methods, I’ve decided to publish it for the Amazon Kindle. It’s to be a technical reference and tutorial for beginners on HTML and CSS. I don’t expect fantastic sales, but it will be an interesting experiment in publishing a technical book in a medium that doesn’t handle graphics well.

I have a background with eBooks as I contributed several books to Project Gutenberg (and helped to program one of their child sites). So, online book distribution is near and dear to my heart. I may also give POD (print on demand) publishing a try with the same book. I’ll keep you updated on how it turns out.

Ever wonder what you would need to learn to go from a novice web developer to an internet guru?

I just posted a diagram I made of one possible path that an individual might choose to take to go from a complete web developer novice to and internet guru. I gave the image a home over at the Web Developer Learning Path Page. It also gives you a bit of an idea of some of the tutorials I will be offering. I hope you enjoy the chart and that it helps you to plan out your own path for learning internet technologies.

I’ve posted the new design for the main pages at byCarel.com. I’m obsessed with triadic color combinations for the moment, so it has a bit of the ‘clown look’ that accompanies that sort of design. The nice thing is that it’s done the way HTML and CSS are supposed to be done, so I can change the colors quickly if I ever get tired of the bright look. Most of the internal pages for image viewing will not be updated. These pages will serve as sort of a low-tech interface for access to the living archive of the way the site was in early 2010. All new images and advancement will happen in the application interface. It’s going to take me a few weeks to even get the skeleton version of that application up and running, but I’ll post here when it’s up on the site.
